Derrick Rosenbarger has won the WPT Montreal main event, after overcoming a field of 862 players over seven days on his way to collecting the coveted title, as well as the $500,824 first place prize.
The $3,500 buy-in tournament attracted a top-flight field of players to create a prize pool worth $2,738,435. Amongst the notable names cashing in at the event but falling short of a final table appearance was Ravi Raghavan in 92nd ($5,204), Gavin Smith in 90th ($6,0250), Antonio Esfandiari in 80th ($6,846), Mohsin Charania in 53rd ($10,953), Victor Ramdin in 45th ($12,871), Yann Dion in 20th ($22,178), Jonathan Little in 17th ($24,916), and Ludovic Lacay in 9th ($48,736).
By the time the final table of six had been reached, Sylvain Siebert was the chip leader on an 8.435m stack, followed by Serge Cantin (6.96m), Mukul Pahuja (5.94m), and Alexandre Lavigne (2.15m), with Derrick Rosenbarger in 5th spot (1.985m) ahead of last woman standing Lily Kiletto on a 370k stack.
Serge Cantin (10-10) then proceeded to eliminate Alexandre Lavigne (K-8) in 5th ($98,574), before Sylvain Siebert did likewise to Lily Kiletto in 5th for $121,848. Serge Cantin (8-8) then joined the fray once more to dispatch Siebert (A-6) to the rail in 4th ($162,936), and after Mukul Pahuja (A-K) won the race against Serge Cantin's pocket eights to send him to the exit in 3rd ($220,170), the heads-up phase of the competition got underway between Pahuja and Rosenbarger.
As the final battle commenced, Mukul Pahuja held a 2 to 1 chip advantage over his final opponent, but Rosenbarger was soon able to reverse the positions before the defining hand was played with Pahuja all-in preflop holding A-4 to Rosenbarger's pocket queens. The board subsequently produced a 9-6-3-4-2 board to consign Mukul Pahuja to a runner-up finish worth $340,928, while Derrick Rosenbarger was crowned the 2013 partypoker World Poker Tour Montreal champion.
Final Table Payouts:
1 Derrick Rosenbarger $500,824
2 Mukul Pahuja $340,928
3 Serge Cantin $220,170
4 Sylvain Siebert $162,936
